Make a landing page with Canva — and the four things it won't do for you
Canva is genuinely good at one job: making a page look right. If you searched for "make a landing page with Canva", you'll get a nice-looking page out of it. The problem starts the moment the page has to do something — collect a lead, live on your own domain, tell you what visitors clicked.
This isn't a "Canva bad" page. It's a map of exactly where the Canva Websites workflow stops being enough for a page whose job is conversion, so you can decide before you spend an afternoon in it. We checked every Canva behaviour below against Canva's own help centre in July 2026 — sources are linked.
No credit card. Publishing and form submissions are on the free plan.

Canva Websites vs make-landing, feature by feature
Both let you publish for free. The differences are in the columns nobody shows you in a "5 Canva landing page templates" post: where the leads go, whose domain it lives on, and whether you can see what visitors did.
| What you actually need | Canva Websites | make-landing |
|---|---|---|
| Publish live for free | Yes — free Canva accounts publish up to 5 sites on a yourname.my.canva.site subdomain. | Yes — one live page on a make-landing.com subdomain, HTTPS included, no card. |
| A form that stores leads you can read | No native lead inbox. You add a form element, but to actually collect and read submissions you route them to a third-party tool (Google Forms, ConvertFlow, etc.). | Built in. Every contact-form submission lands in your dashboard, on the free plan. Nothing to wire up. |
| Custom domain (yourbrand.com) | Canva Pro / Teams / Education only. Free accounts stay on the my.canva.site subdomain. | Pro. Free pages stay on the make-landing.com subdomain — same trade, honestly. |
| See what visitors clicked | Website Insights (views, traffic, engagement) is Pro/Teams/Education only. No native heatmap — you embed Google Analytics for anything detailed. | Page views on free; a click heatmap on Pro. No third-party embed to set up. |
| Editing model | Freeform drag canvas: elements are absolutely positioned. Beautiful, but you tune the mobile view by hand and it can shift. | Structured, responsive blocks (hero, features, form, CTA…). Every block reflows for mobile automatically. |
| Starting point | A blank canvas or a template you restyle by hand. | Describe the business in a sentence; the AI writes the first full draft — copy, form fields and all. |
| Price to unlock the paid tier | Canva Pro, around €11.99/mo billed annually (re-check canva.com/pricing). | €12/mo, monthly, no commitment. |

The real Canva workflow, and the three points where it blocks
Here's what actually happens when you try to turn a Canva design into a working landing page. The first two steps are a joy. Then it gets specific.
Design the page — Canva is excellent here
Drag a template, swap the photo, retype the headline, pick your brand colours. Within twenty minutes you have something that looks more polished than most small-business sites. No complaints.
Publish it — this part works too
Canva Websites publishes to a yourname.my.canva.site subdomain for free (up to five sites on a free account). It is live, it is HTTPS, and you can send someone the link. So far, so good.
Capture a lead — here it blocks where it blocks
This is the wall. Canva has no lead inbox: there is no dashboard where a "someone filled in your form" list appears. You add a form element, then route it to a third-party service to actually store and read submissions. For a page whose whole purpose is capturing names and emails, the capturing part lives outside Canva.
Put it on your own domain — blocks on free where it blocks
A custom domain (yourbrand.com) needs Canva Pro, Teams or Education. On a free account the page stays on my.canva.site. Fine for a test; not what a client expects on a real launch page.
See what visitors did — blocks on free where it blocks
Canva Website Insights — views, traffic sources, engagement — is a Pro/Teams/Education feature, and even then there is no native heatmap. To learn which button people clicked, you embed Google Analytics and read it elsewhere.
When Canva is the right tool — and when it isn't
Stay in Canva if…
- You need a good-looking one-off asset: a poster, a menu, a social carousel, a simple "about us" page.
- The page is mostly informational and a link or a "call us" number is enough — you are not chasing leads.
- You already live inside Canva for your brand and want everything in one place.
- You are happy on a my.canva.site subdomain and never need to read who filled a form.
Use a real landing builder if…
- The page exists to collect leads and you need submissions stored where you can read and export them.
- You want your own domain eventually, without jumping to a €100+/yr plan to get it.
- You want to know which CTA people actually clicked, not just how many landed.
- You are running the same offer as several variants and want responsive pages that don't break on mobile.
The honest split: Canva wins on visual polish and on assets you'll reuse everywhere — a poster, a menu, an Instagram carousel. A landing page whose only job is to turn a visitor into a name and an email is a different kind of object. It needs a form that stores leads somewhere you can read them, a place to see what people clicked, and — eventually — your own domain. That's where a builder built for conversion pulls ahead.
How to turn a Canva mock-up into a published page that captures leads
You don't throw the Canva work away. It becomes the brief. Here's the fastest path from a Canva design to a live URL with a form that actually deposits submissions somewhere you own.
- 1
Turn your Canva design into a one-line brief
You already made the hard decisions in Canva: the offer, the headline, the proof, the call to action. Compress it to a sentence — "mobile dog groomer in Bordeaux, first appointment half price, book by form". That sentence is the prompt.
- 2
Let the AI draft the page, then match your Canva look
The generator writes the hero, the features, the form labels and the CTA. Then you edit in blocks: paste your headline, set your brand colour, drop in the same hero image you used in Canva. You are re-skinning a working page, not rebuilding from zero.
- 3
Publish, and this time the form actually collects
Hit publish. The page goes live on a subdomain with HTTPS, and every submission lands in your dashboard — no third-party form service to wire in. Add your custom domain later, on Pro, if the page earns it.
Canva landing page questions, answered straight
Can Canva capture email addresses from a form?
Not into a lead inbox of its own. Canva Websites lets you place a form, but there is no native dashboard listing your submissions. To actually collect and read the emails you connect a third-party form service and manage the leads there. A landing-page builder stores submissions for you, which is the difference this page is about.
Can I publish a Canva website on my own domain?
Yes, but only on Canva Pro, Teams or Education (checked July 2026). On a free Canva account the site lives on a yourname.my.canva.site subdomain. Custom domains and unlimited sites are the paid tier.
Is Canva Websites free?
The free plan publishes up to five sites on my.canva.site. Custom domains, unlimited sites and Website Insights (analytics) require Canva Pro or higher. So "free" gets you a live subdomain, not a branded, measured lead page.
Does Canva have analytics or a heatmap?
Website Insights — views, traffic, engagement — is available on Pro/Teams/Education, not the free plan, and there is no native heatmap. For click-level detail you embed Google Analytics and read it separately.
So is make-landing better than Canva?
For a beautiful poster or social asset, no — stay in Canva. For a page whose job is to convert a visitor into a lead, make-landing does the parts Canva leaves to third parties: a form that stores submissions in your dashboard, on the free plan, and a heatmap on Pro. Different tools for different jobs.
Do I have to start over to move off Canva?
No. Your Canva work is the brief. Describe the same offer, let the AI draft the page, then paste your headline and drop in the same image. Ten minutes of re-skinning, and the form works this time.
Keep the Canva look. Add the working parts.
Describe the same offer you designed in Canva, let the AI draft the page, edit it in blocks, and publish it live with a form that drops leads into your dashboard. Free, no card.
